Well i went to see this on Wednesday with a few friends and well What can i say but WOW. I will not hesitate to say now that this film is the best film I've seen all year and will see all year.
I thought that the film had a perfect balance of not only pace but also emotional connection to the audience. I found myself being pulled in to the world that was on screen as James Franko delivered a great performance creating a sense of realism that i feel alot of movies have failed to create this year.
The story progressed at steady pace using the concept of dis equilibrium and equilibrium. However this works well for this movie as i see now what the director achieved from doing it, we spend so much of the beginning of the film centered around Ceasers progressing and maturing that we start to view him as if he was person and not an animal. This mixed with the anthropomorphic face of the character and it was a guaranteed fact that when any half befell the character you would always take its side and feel the need to defend it.
As we got on to the action sequences in the film the cgi used was impressive to say the least, take King Kong and split it in to about 100 apes thats how impressive the graphics were. The research that went on to behavior etc was also spectacular to watch. I also felt that the director Rupert Wyatt managed to refine the use of to many effects on the action scenes which to me is great, it becomes so much more believable. To many explosions can ruin a movie in my opinion i found that with the new A- Team movie which i thought was impressive until the huge crate crashing scene near the end.
There were flaws with the film however, the biggest one being the distinct lack in the army. I'm sorry but if this really happened the army would be all over it, i would have sufficed with even a few army helicopters flying over the city at the end of the film. My second flaw was with the ape sizes, the fact that the Orang-u-tang was as large as the gorilla and yet it could still walk through the cage corridors where the apes could just fit.
However these are minor things and are just me picking faults this is still by far the best movie i have seen this year and really puts Tim Burtons attempt at one of these films to shame. I would recommend this film very highly and would probably get a 4.5/5 from me.
